So a second trip to Mozambique in November and it has taken this long to write about it....Lets just say that the second trip was a little wilder than the first. R and R's and Quarts bottles made up for the lack of fish... this was the first trip we have ever done where we ran out of beer before the water!!

When we arrived in Salt Rock to pick up the crew for the weekend we were greeted with the aftermath of a nights fairly heavy drinking.... if they had been drinking a quart for every trace they tied they certainly would not be running short of traces. Anyway an hour late we hit the road... Donavan and Nikki bounced a quart as soon as we hit the freeway which was pretty impressive if not a little concerning.... more for Mike who was taking his new Prado on it's first trip across the border.

All the usual stops with one extra one for Dwayne who had a dodgy curry the night before saw us at the border post, it just happened to be the same day the miners were heading home for the holidays... so we were in for a long wait

.

The most amazing thing about these guy's and Nikki was that on our arrival at Malongane it was less than an hour and we were all on the water... a quick look at the launch and a light snack and it was time to fish.

Stuart was into his first Dorado before half of us had even hit backline and it wasn't long after that and he was into his second Dorado....no pressure on the rest of us. I trolled over my usual marks with no joy and found myself in Trigger fish heaven before I knew it. Not the worst way to start the weekend... Fresh fish on the first night and the excitement of anoher perfect day tomorrow. Stuart and I spoilt the gang with several different was of cooking the Dorado and with the prospect of catching fish the next day it was a fairly early night.

Suunday morning was perfect... the launch was a doddle and the water was purple, the only concern was the total lack of current. I'm a firm believer in the no current no fish theory but Curt and Bogart provrd me wrong as Curt got a nice Dorado and Bogart got a nice Yellow Fin Tuna.

I decided to put the Kingy to the test and headed north for Fredericos where I turned right and headed out to Pinnacles.... I got a size Greater Barracuda for my troubles but very little else. It was like being in the Doldrums when I finally got to Pinnacles, with 50metres of water below me and 6km's from the shore the water was like glass, the only thing breaking the surface were the millions of blue bottles around me. 22km's later I hit the beach at Malongane impressed with the Kingy but dissappointed with the fishing. We spent the day playing in the surf and debating an afternoon session....

Monday was again perfect with a light easterly and 30m visibility but once again no current... Bogart got a huge Snapper but nothing else came out... the wind switched to a westerly and that was the end of the fishing for the day.

Fortunately I had to take one of the dive instructors for a lesson because it was decided that a trip into Ponto and a few Rand R's at Fernando's would be a good idea.....I can tell you from past experience that this is never a good idea!!! Anyway several hours later the bunch returned in high spirits and with a notch on the belt.... totally unrelated to fishing. Amazingly everyone managed to stay awake long enough a great dinner at the Restuarant in the grounds at Malongane.... we were joined by some of the dive instructors and it turned into a fantastic evening. Coffee with condense milk as a night cap and some of us sat up until the wee hours chatting about life in general and saving the world from self-destruction.

I was the only one who launched on Tuesday morning but again nothing... I have never put in so many hours at Malongane or ever with so little reward... the west picked up quickly and I headed back for the beach to help pack up and get ready for the trip home!!

It was definately a fun trip and I can honestly say I have never laughed as much as i did with this bunch of Salt Rock and PMB outlaws....Thanks for a fantastic trip.

Cheers Anton
