I have just got back from another fantastic Fishingski.com trip to Mozambique with a very enthusiastic bunch of anglers who proved that even the bad weather they can catch fish.
Howling Easterlies have been dogging Mozambique for the last 2 months and nothing changed for us except for a buster of a Westerly on our last day... Despite this the guy's got into some good fish with Couta being the order of the day however Wouter got a nice Sail-fish and Rowan a good size Yellow Fin Tuna...
With the big seas and strong winds it was decided that we drive an hour up the coast and drift down from Mamoli to Malongane; Bogart, Wouter, Jacque, Jerone and Rowan all launched with only Wouter making it out on the first attempt...Jerone was so unlucky as every time he took the gap a wave popped out of nowhere and he was back to the beach. Jacque to was unlucky but after numerous attempts he managed to break through and head out to sea... His reward was swift as it wasn't long and he was into a nice Couta. Rowan was next into a Couta which he followed up with a 10kg Yellow Fin tuna on a vertical Jig.. the first time anyone on one of our trips has got a fish vertical Jigging. Bogart rounded off the afternoon with an 18kg Couta... 4hr's later and as the sun started to set the 4 anglers hit the beach at Malongane with a smile and a story for the braai. Very fresh fish was the order of the day, Jaque proving early in the trip that he was the man when it came to prepareing the days catch... he set the bar high early and never failed to impress.
Sunday was unfortunately for my liver the same as Saturday and only Bogart, Wouter and Rowan launched... Rowan and Bogart were into the Couta again but it was Wouter who got a nice Sail fish that took the days honours. My day took a wrong turn when on route to finding cell phone reception and a 4km detour to fetch Gary... Steve took us to the bright lights of Ponto'd Ora. Fernandos is famous for several things but his Rand R's in large frosted 500ml beer mugs have made his Tavern a popular destination for those brave (fine line between being brave and Stupid) enough to try. I won't spoil your trip to Fernandos but I will tell you that not stopping at two R and R's is a very foolish idea... the rest of the day is a blurr but 14hr's later when I finally woke up it was time to fish. I'm not sure if my senses were still dulled by the day before but with Mamoli being a unanimous NO vote to launching by the group we landed up at Frederico's... I would not normally launch here but we found a rip that had potential and after discovering that the shore-break had teeth Bogart found it out 7 times... we all managed to get out. Drifting at 4.5km's per hour with a droge anchor certainly limits your time on the water but it didn't stop our reels screaming. It's a little embarrassing but I managed to drop 3 Couta, one being a bus.... I put it down to Steve's detour the day before, sorry Steve. Rowan was again onto the Couta.... Sharks were the order of the day with Wouter taking top honours for the trip with 9.... I think 15 were hooked in total. There is a story about an up close and personal greeting with a local shark but it was decided to brush this story under the carpet... as the guy's wife wouldn't let him go fishing ever again.
Monday Morning saw the East turn into a West and hopes for a good mornings fishing were soon dashed as the West turned into a buster but not before Rowan once again landed a 19kg couta..... The trip home was long and tiring but filled with good stories, a few new ones and 7 new good friends ....
Cheers Anton

The reason I have been behind on my 'Fishing from a Ski' updates is because I have been behind on my fishing...
