So many guys ask about fitting fish finders, what's the best way? Can you mould it into the ski? and so on and so forth.... the truth is I didn't even own a fish finder. It's the thought of all those wires, batteries and extra stuff I couldn't be bothered with. So what I did was talk to my mate Mick Clarke, he gave me some great advise and some good ideas. I have now used this information and can now show you how to fit your own or how we can build one into your ski for you if you like.... I like the idea so much that I'm now going to fit a Fish finder in my own ski.
Firstly you need to choose your finder, the Cuta 300 from Eagle is very popular as a Fish finder and it's supplied by Lowrance so you know you have a good back-up if things go wrong. The Cuta 350 is a Fish finder GPS which is great but you pay for the luxury of having the GPS.
The Finder I have fitted is the Cuta 300...What we are trying to do is fit the Monitor/screen in the most convenient spot, the wiring as tucked away as possible, the battery in a safe out the way place and the Transducer in the best possible position.
First thing to do is mount the Monitor... I chose to mount it onto the hatch lid with a velcro base so that it can be removed easily when it's tim e to head home.
The Monitor is on a fibreglass base with velcro and then I have fitted another velcro disk onto the hatch lid.. The Monitor is easily secured and removed.
For some extra security I have added a saddle loop on to the hatch lid, to the back of the monitor I fitted a nylon cord with a stainless steel clip... should you knock your monitor off the velcro it it still secured to the Ski.
I have cut a bung into the hatch lid, this is for your transducer cable to run through, when you are finished you can push your cable back and close the bung, sealing your hatch again.
I have run the cables along the inside of the hatch and fixed them with PVC velcro patches that are glued onto the hatch wall. I added an extra patch onto the inside of the hatch lid to hold the end of your transducer cable when you've pushed it back into the ski.

The Transducer has been fitted directly onto the hull, the hatch was cut out prior to moulding so the transducer is sitting on only one layer of Fibregalss. The Transducer is sitting directly below the seat above.
Finally the battery has been fitted into the back hatch with a velcro panel across the front, I have added some soft rubber pads inside the box to keep the battery nice and tight. I made a mould for the battery and have counter sunk this box into the back hatch so that you don't loose any space and the battery is out of the way.
There is a 25mm conduet pipe running between the main hatch and the back hatch for all the necessary cable to run through. A gromit is fitted over the cable to make sure these areas are still sealed.
So there you have it... a fitted Fish finder, no cables in the way, transducer mounted inside the ski and a battery fitted into the ski without having to worry about it.
Hope this helps....
